This latest announcement follows the appointment of Steve Lerner as CEO earlier this year. Alchimer, a spinout from France’s CEA (Commissariat á l’Energie Atomique), has developed materials and process IP for creating very thin conformal copper seed layers, used in the metallization of through-silicon vias (TSVs).
Since conventional techniques have reached their limit at TSV aspect ratios of 3:1, Alchimer’s technology, which enables TSVs with aggressive aspect ratios of 10:1 and greater, is well-placed to drive the adoption of advanced 3D IC packaging.
Marx was previously with Burg Consulting, where in his six years as VP Marketing, he worked with small and medium sized technology companies to develop marketing strategies and distributor networks.
Before working at Burg Consulting, Marx was Director of New Business Development at semiconductor materials vendor Praxair Electronics.
He has almost 30 years’ experience working in management positions for companies in the fields of semiconductor capital equipment, materials and packaging technology. He holds a Ph.D. in Metallurgy from the Pennsylvania State University and is co-author of numerous publications and seven US patents.
Alchimer’s CEO, Steve Lerner, comments: “Alchimer continues to gain industry adoption of its unique nanofilm technology, most notably in the areas of Memory and MEMs. Dan Marx brings with him a wealth of experience and I’m certain his expertise will be invaluable as we build our business in the semiconductor marketplace.”
Dan Marx adds: “Alchimer has a proven technology which will revolutionise the way high-aspect ratio TSVs are filled, and is set to enable large scale adoption of advanced 3D IC packaging. Developing Alchimer’s customer base is an exciting task and I’m looking forward to working with the Alchimer team.”
Alchimer develops and markets chemical formulations and processes for the electrochemical deposition of nanometric films to create copper interconnects in semiconductor wafers and through silicon vias for 3D packaging. The company is a spin-off from the Commissariat à l’Energie Atomique. Founded in 2001, it won the First National Award for the Creation of High Tech Companies from the French Minister of Research and Industry and is a Red Herring Top 100 European Company.
Alchimer employs 30 staff, of whom 15 have PhD degrees. The company holds 29 patents in product and process IP and has a pre-production manufacturing capacity of 250 metric tons per annum. For more information, visit: http://www.alchimer.com.
