As part of ‘By Bike to EBV', for each kilometre covered by employees of EBV throughout EMEA (Europe, the Middle East and Africa) between April and October 2008 by cycling to the office or to a public transport stop or station, EBV will donate €0.15.
The campaign will thus have a positive effect on climate change in two ways: as a result of switching from car to bike, CO2 emissions will be reduced; plus the donation money that has been ‘cycled’ by the employees will be donated directly to ‘Rettet den Regenwald e.V’, an organisation working to save the rain forests.
In addition, part of the raised funds will go to ‘Bund Naturschutz e.V.‘ - a local nature organisation in Bavaria (South Germany) for its purchase of protected land of 6000 m² on the banks of the Danube in order to protect this biotope area.
Christian Meier, Chief Operating Officer at EBV Elektronik, explains the campaign’s background: “In the day-to-day business of an internationally positioned company such as EBV Elektronik, business trips by plane or car are unavoidable.
However, we do not intend to neglect our corporate responsibility for climate change. Our campaign is therefore not just about redressing our emissions by supporting selected environmental projects, but primarily to raise general awareness about the topic amongst our employees and the public.”
‘By Bike to EBV’ will not remain a one-off action. With the campaign ‘ECOmise it’ EBV Elektronik will start further projects in the coming months, which will form the basis of a long-term company commitment to climate protection.
Furthermore, environmental protection already plays a key role at EBV. For example, the company's European headquarters in Poing near Munich has an ultra-modern air-conditioning system powered by underground water.
