Associates members are defined as manufacturers who produce systems and components that meet or exceed the Initiative's Program Criteria, or software providers who deliver power-saving software.
The broad aim of the Climate Savers Computing Initiative is to improve the energy efficiency of computers and other IT equipment both in terms of design and use and in so doing reduce their environmental impact.
Through the use of technology and the design of its products, many of which are utilised in computers and related products, Murata Power Solutions can significantly and positively contribute to the achievement of the goals of the initiative.
The Initiative starts with the ENERGY STAR 4.0 specification for desktops, laptops and workstation computers—including monitors—and gradually increases the efficiency requirements over the next four years.
The ENERGY STAR 4.0 specification, which took effect in July 2007, requires power supplies to be at least 80% efficient for most of their load range. It also puts limits on the energy used by devices when inactive, and requires systems to be shipped with power-management features enabled.
By utilizing the latest technology, methodology and topologies in its front-end power supply and AC/DC power supply and DC/DC Converter products, Murata Power Solutions has become an industry-leading company in supporting energy efficient OEM products. An ongoing commitment to investment in research and development will help to foster efficient design into the future.
Commenting on the company’s Associate membership and its dedication to maximising efficiency and minimising waste energy, John Wanes, Business Lead for the Power Supply Business Unit, Murata Power Solutions said: “Due to the nature and application of our products, we can have a major and positive effect on the energy use and efficiency of computer related products and systems.
The impact computer systems have on the environment through their energy usage is staggering. Supporting the significant reduction of that impact through the design of efficient products, and our associate membership of the Climate Savers Computing Initiative to encourage the proper use of power saving functionality is crucially important.”
